Serge Dog also explains to us how he plans to put AZ on the map while still aiming for Universal Respect from his Hip Hop Peers and the Music Industry.
Enjoy!

Are you working on an album right now?
I’m currently working on some mixtape projects with my group Da Prospects and will hopefully be working on a new album by the summer time.
Have you released any prior projects?
I released my first solo album “The Unexpected Welcome” in October of 09′. It took me a long time to finally release it but it was definitely worth the wait.
Do you have any future releases?
My groups working on a new mixtape but we haven’t chosen the title yet. I will definitely be posting it up online though for FREE download.
Working with any Producers?
I’m currently working with two producers. They’re both my homies so we work good together. One is Nino from Tiro Productions and the other is S-Co from MyCrib Productions. S-Co was the executive producer on my first album so when we get in the studio and work together we drop hits.
Any Shows or Tours coming up?
I always have plenty of shows in Arizona, but I’m currently working on maybe going on tour around the states just so I can expand my fan base.
Where does “The Unexpected” come from?
I gave myself this nickname because when I first started rapping (which was when I was 13) people would always be like… “wow you rap? hhhmmm I wouldn’t have guessed that“. So it was always an unexpected reaction from everyone I would show my music too.
What do you think of the state of Hip Hop right now & what do you add to it?
I feel like there’s a lot of experimenting going on and some people are trying to add a new flavor to the game by mixing it with some different genres or trying new sounds. I don’t see this as a bad thing I actually think its cool I mean we need to change it up and give our audience something new. I know a lot of people are still doubting hip-hop and saying its not the same but that’s not true its just evolving and people need to get with it. I feel like my music is something people are feeling because unlike other artist I can get lyrical on my songs if want to but I’ll still keep the mainstream media’s attention enough that they don’t get bored. I’m able to spit hot shit and still have people on the dance floor.
Your represent hard for Arizona, can you put us on game about what Hip Hop is like there?
I always represent AZ to the fullest I love my state. AZ hip-hop is different from normal hip-hop because you can’t label it as one genre. We have some many different kinds of people and cultures blending throughout all of AZ that people bring different styles into the mix and its hard for people to focus on a specific style. I personally think this is an advantage we have because that means we can do whatever kinda music we want and people will still feel it.
Why do you think AZ hasn’t gotten the respect from the Hip Hop Community?
I think that’s the reason AZ hip-hop hasn’t blown up yet because we still making our own style and artist out here need to network more so we can start getting on the map and getting our props that we deserve. We have a lot of talent out here but people haven’t taken the time to truly listen and take a good look at what we have to offer. Hopefully we can start doing it big soon and getting our respect soon. This is the reason I go hard so I can inspire other artist to follow my lead.
You have 1 of the most impressive Press kits I have ever seen, that shows alot about your worth ethic, what advice would you give to emcee’s trying to get their music heard?
Thank you very much I appreciate that comment. If I had to give advice to someone who was really trying to make it big I would say do your homework. Study the game and see what other artist’s mistakes are and make sure you don’t make the same ones. Know that the music industry is a business, so you can’t just be all about making good music. You also have to be a good business person and make sure you can make moves also.
Where can people go to hear your music?

Making it in the music industry isn’t the only goal I have but its the one I’m focusing on right now. I have to take it one step at a time and hopefully things will turn out how I want.
