My Interview with Siccness!
January 7th, 2010 by latinabeatz received No Comments »Check out this Interview I did with OC Emcee “Siccness“, In this interview he gives us insight into where he is from, his take on “Chicano Rap”, what’s in store for his new album and everything in between! Enjoy!

You go by the name Siccness, where did that come from?
Well since I was in High school me and some of my homie’s would say that’s sicc! To certain stuff we would say, like if someone were to say something just out of the blue that someone wouldn’t normally say we would say that’s Sicc! And I just so happened to say a lot of stuff that people wouldn’t normally say so the homie’s were always telling me that’s sicc! So when I started rapping I went with Siccness because that’s what I brought whenever I opened my mouth and spit and from there on out it stuck with me and everyone else.
How long have you been an emcee?
Well since I was 15 years old I’ve messed around with rapping every now and then with some of my friends from high school and some of my friend’s from the street. I didn’t really get serious with music until I was 22 that’s when I really stuck with it.
Being Hispanic, most would label you as “Chicano Rap” what do you think of that label and does it fit?
My honest opinion about being labeled as Chicano Rap, first off I don’t like being labeled as anything so when they label me as Chicano Rap, it really pisses me off because strait out its a stereo type point blank because I’m Mexican, bald, tattooed, & rhyme they automatically think I’m Chicano Rap, don’t get me wrong I got nothing against Chicano Rap it’s just not the music that I make, I make my own type of music and that’s Siccness Music so some people need to open there eyes and ears b4 they label anybody anything.
Where did you grow up? And how did that shape your writing skills?
I grew up in Orange County, California in the Santa Ana and Tustin areas. As far as how it has shaped my writing skills it has shaped em a lot cause what I write about is what I have experienced in my county and in my cities from the streets to my family to rap to the homies and to my up & downs I’ve been through all of this where I grew up.
Is this where your 3rd Annual B-Day Bash will be as well?
Yeah my 3rd Annual Birthday Bash will be in Orange County in the city of Newport Beach. Every year since 2008 I’ve had a huge show every February, and every time I have held it at Hogue Barmichaels and I have gotten some of the dopest OC Rap/Hip-Hop artist to perform and every single year we have hit capacity at the venue. This year I hope to do the same exact thing, we got OC artist/groups “J.King”, “Strollin Wreckless”, “Mash”, “The Chise”, “Buddy P & M.A.”, “Cash Mob Bosses”, & “Devotion” and all of em are guaranteed to put on a great show, so this show should not be slept on because it’s going to be real dope.

Right now your big project is yourself titled album Siccness, when is that going to be released?
Well right now there is no current release date set for my album that I just started working on officially at the very end of 2009, but with just the first track already recorded which is titled “Jealousy” the album is already sounding better than anything that I have previously recorded. With this album I’m definitely taking it up a few notches from production to lyrics to mixing to mastering and to promo everything is going to be 150% perfect no flaws what so ever. I want this album to have a big sound that’s larger than life, and hopefully it ends up landing me a recording contract, cause after all that is the main goal.
Any Features? Will it be on a Record Label or Indie?
As far as features go on this project at the moment there is only 2 feature’s so far and that’s cause I just started working on it but there will be some more features on it sooner or later as long as they fit perfectly with what I’m trying to do with this project, but I do got 1 song that I did which is titled “Jealousy” (click Here to hear snippet) and is featuring Universal Recording Artist “Epademik” and it also features Metal/Rock vocalist Joe Arnold of the group “Project 1” on the hook and the tracks produced by “Serf Show Productions” who’s produced tracks for (G Malone, Snoop, & Dogg Pound) And as far as my label situation goes right now I am not on any label at the moment but hope to change that real soon, so Labels if your reading this get at me, let’s talk.
Any shows coming up? Where have you performed before?
I don’t really have any current shows coming up at the moment except for My 3rd Annual B-Day Bash in February cause I’m pretty much locked away in the studio hard at work on this new album perfecting it in every way possible. As far as places that I have performed at in the past I’ve performed at “The House of Blues” (Hollywood, Ca), “Velvet Jones” (Santa Barbara, Ca), The Galaxy Theatre” (Santa Ana, Ca), “The Rhythm Lounge” (Long Beach, Ca), and several other places throughout Southern California. In the future I’m hoping to expand my shows throughout all of California and the United States.
How long have you been making music? Past album releases?
I’ve been making quality music now officially since 2006 so that would be about 4 years now that I’ve been actually recording music in a studio and putting it out for people to hear. As far as past releases go my first album release was in December of 2006, the album was titled “Here I Come” and had 11 tracks on it and featured local Hip-Hop artist Rythm K, Rebel, & Klipp and all of the production came from Ben Kanselbaum of Short Stack Productions and with this album came 2 music videos one titled “Born n Raised/Warrior” & the other titled “Sicc Venom”. My second release was in September of 2008 and was titled “The Orange County Zoo” and had 21 tracks on it and featured local Hip-Hop artist Mash The Ambassador, J.King, Sand Mann, Buddy P, Ill Phaness, & More and also had production from F-Major, XL Middleton, Traksmith, EQ Beats & a few others as well. I released 1 music video for this album titled “The Grind”.
Who have you worked with and who would you love to collab with?
Artist that I have worked with so far there’s a bunch of them but to name a few “Clinton Wayne”, “Epademik”, “Mash The Ambassador”, “J.King” “Sand Mann” & “K-City”. And as far as Artist that I would love to colab with, Damn! I got a whole list of artist that I would love to collab with I would say the top 5 artist though would have to be and this is in no particular order I would have to go with “Royce Da 5’9”, “Brotha Lynch Hung”, “Scarface”, “Ludacris”, & “B-Real” but like I said I got a whole list of artist so there’s several more that I could name.
What do you think about the current state of Rap/Hip-Hop?
I know a lot of people would say that Rap/Hip-Hop is dead, But I honestly do not believe that at all we got a lot of really good Rap/Hip-Hop artist in the game and not in the game that just haven’t been given that extra push even though there music is dope as fuck and that’s because they aren’t making what I call “Shake Your Ass Music” and I blame that mainly on the DJ’s/Radio Stations (especially West Coast DJ’s/Radio Stations), It seems like they don’t accept any real music to play anymore and that’s bullshit cause life isn’t all about shaking your ass and partying, so why only play that type of music? I’m not saying don’t play that music that’s fine you can play it but play other types of music as well, don’t just stick to that party shit cause that isn’t what life’s all about.
How would you describe your style?
Music from the heart of a survivor of the struggle, the underdog’s hero!
